“If you listen to the archive of DESERT ISLAND DISCS the difference in the quality of interviewing in Kirsty Young’s episodes is astonishing.
She was excellent. She allowed space but got to the person behind a persona.
Whoever is booking the guests now seems to deliver a 10% hit rate of interest where at one time most weeks were engaging.
As someone who has listened to hundreds of these podcasts from the archive I feel the post-Kirsty era interviews are a retrograde step…
I thought Lauren was brought in as a safe pair of hands to hold the fort as Kirsty had health problems to hopefully return at some point.
I think if every listener was asked if Kirsty could return, I think it would be a resounding YES.
I fear that this desert island that I have loved is in danger of sinking into the sea unless something is done soon.”
