Somewhere between the polite interviews of Roy Plomley and the present day Lauren Laverne there were one or two people in charge of Desert Island Discs who , in my opinion, became too intrusive, too shrill . This style, to dig until the guest is weeping and abjectly divulging personal facts, has become the norm in all branches of modern media . It is unattractive and not the original aim of this programme to embarrass and shame the subject . Lauren Laverne lets people speak without goading them further than they want to go .

Compulsive listening... I find the relative unknown even more fascinating than the celebrities. Fantastic podcast - just wish it was more frequent than one a week!Read full review »
