Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder and experts still aren’t sure what causes it or how to cure it. Finding a way to suppress the progress of autoimmune disorders without compromising the immune system is a puzzle researchers around the world are hoping to solve. Dr. Pere Santamaria from the University of Calgary, whose research looks at autoimmune disorders and, specifically, type 1 diabetes, is hoping to crack that code.
