Spreading a dangerous mindset
I have a lot of compassion and empathy for the families that have gone through what this podcast describes. I love Wondery's podcasts usually, I believe they're doing important work for society in spreading awareness around abuse that people generally don't know about. However this isn't one of those times. As a survivor of child abuse that went on until I moved out at age 18 because no one intervened, I believe that people who are advocating for child safety are completely right to assume the worst and investigate appropriately and implement plans. I know that some innocent families are put through unbearable pain because of this but I also believe it's worth it for the kids that these interventions end up saving. CPS was involved a few times when I was growing up but because of the fear of overstepping (like described in this podcast) they never did enough for me or my siblings and they didn't find out the truth about how things were and we suffered so much because of it. The narratives that spread this kind of idea that people who are forcing families through this are in any way not doing the right thing is dangerous. CPS needs more privileges to protect children not less and this is not supporting that in any way. From the bottom of my heart, I really believe you should take this podcast down. Spread awareness about child abuse that NEVER got prevented even when CPS was involved because of wanting to avoid what is talked about in this podcast. Look up how many kids die of child abuse every year. Look up Emani Moss, look up Ame Deal. These are kids who have stories that deserve to be told. No child ever died from CPS being too careful, and looking in too much. Yes, it was annoying, yes, sometimes it's traumatizing. But as someone who lived the nightmare they're trying to prevent, if they can save just one child's life, is it not worth it? This podcast is harmful, you guys have such a powerful voice with your platform and you should use it for good. This isn't good, and instead of allocating resources into this podcast maybe you can make some about children who never got saved. You're not doing them any favors and you're not doing the children who need to be saved right now any favors either by spreading a narrative that casts CPS or DCS as a villain who tears apart innocent families. Please, do better.Read full review »

This is dramatic and misleading. I get accidents happen but there is no reason for a 5 month old to have an accident like that. They DESERVED to be investigated. The social workers are just doing their job. They have to speak for and protect the babies that can’t talk for themselves! If they...Read full review »
