“I’m really into true crime and I’ve listened to many true crime podcasts. Though production values vary, they tend to fall into a few categories: Gen X or Millenial Friends bantering about cases (MFM, True Crime Garage, The First Degree); Serious Journalist doing an Investigative Deep-Dive (Serial, In Sight, Someone Knows Something); or Lone Wolf reading from a script (Casefile, Killafornia Dreaming). I follow some of each, so I’m not putting that down.
But this one isn’t as easy to categorize. It’s like discovering that the unassuming, small town aunt you’ve never talked to much has turned her craft corner into a home recording booth, and suddenly you discover that she’s full of really interesting stories. There’s a down-home charm and soul to this show that I really love. The host talks to people involved and includes long stretches of relevant audio, so the people involved really come to life. I love the authenticity of it. Definitely give it a try.”
