A for effort, E for editing
Host Joe Scott has more than done his hard work reporting this podcast. He scored some great interviews and he weaves a mostly coherent narrative that is very listenable. From the Q&A episodes he also seems very self-effacing yet charming, and to have a true love for movies and interest in web history. But he shouldn’t be his own editor. Too often he introduces people and explains their quotes, like saying “X person worked on Y paper and wrote about Z movie” and then plays a clip from the interviewee saying “I was X, I worked on Y paper and wrote about Z movie.” Only other reason for a 4 star is that he needs to call some of his interviewees on their bull. One AICN writer talks about watching a movie age 9 and standing on his seat and screaming “F*** yeah!” because the magic of action movies dawned on him there. Right. There are several other examples like this in episodes. I hope (1) people listen to this, the effort invested is admirable, (2) Scott continues with more series downloading the scoop on other notorious websites/web figures and (3) that he lets someone dispassionately edit him, with a little trimming this would be 5 stars.

Really loving this podcast - super interesting- but please don’t play loud music over someone while they are talking - it makes it really hard to parse out what someone is saying…

This is such a great idea for a podcast, and the work that the host did to get interviews with former contributors goes a long way to make this podcast worth a listen. However, there is an overt agenda that the host has that, regardless of whether or not a listener agrees, only drags down the...Read full review »
