I often get some question about the amount of food an athlete needs to eat when training for an ultra - either "Why am I always hungry?" or "Do I really need to eat this much?"
While there are a large range of responses to this, it makes sense that you'd have to eat a lot in a big training cycle - and not just on your heavy training days.
In this video I broke down why with some basic math, using myself as an example.

I'm joined on this episode by Brian Passenti!
I met Brian a few months ago at a UESCA Ultrarunning Conference and wanted to get him on the podcast to talk about everything ultramarathon.
Brian has a long history as an endurance athlete, running everything from track to Ironmans to 200-milers.
Unsurprisingly, he has great advice on how we can train well and get creative with our planning to make it fit - even when life's a mess.
Enjoy!

We're often held back by self-limiting beliefs.
A lot of those beliefs are rooted in hard facts and real limitations, but that doesn't mean we should let them hold us back from at least pursuing our goals.

I'm joined on this episode by Natalie Rizen!
Natalie is an athlete I've been coaching off-and-on for over a year and she completed her first 100k at Javalina Jundred this past year.
We got together to discuss the race, training in 110° heat, and fighting deep out of the pain cave - as well as what pushed her to transition from college softball to running trails.
Natalie's a wonderful person and I know you're going to enjoy this interview!

I'm joined on this episode by Brian Gilbert!
Brian is an athlete I've been coaching for a while and he just ran his first sub-24hr 100-miler at Rocky Raccoon 100.
Brian's an interesting guy who came to running later in life as a way to get fit after years of injuries and other BS that life throws at you...
And now he's absolutely killing it out on the trails.
I guarantee you'll get a lot out of this one.

We hear a lot about "core" training as runners, yet a lot of the popular information completely misses the mark.
Here's an in depth discussion on the "core," how to train it, and why people do it so badly.
Fair warning: this one gets into the weeds.

As much as I love and appreciate specific training, a lot of testing metrics can provide more distraction than assistance.
In this episode I discuss why I don't recommend them for most people and what you could do instead.
