I feel Emil has definitely created something special here… I came for the story but soon was pulled into the music history, theory and obscure artist I’ve never herd, it’s a delight to say the least.

My friends and I all missed you, so great to hear new podcasts in 2022. Love the format, great autobiography tales on odd numbered shows, and fabulous DJing with music history each even numbered show. You’ve expanded my musical universe.

non "inspirational" comforting but candid companion for anyone digging their way out, you don't need to know music to feel this. listened while in recovery from a near-death accident that interrupted an internal crisis. this was home in the hospital and the weeks after. still my favoriteRead full review »

Story telling of self as found from the inside out and outside in. Philosophy and reflection. Ego is checked. Sincere. Great music woven throughout. Thanks, Emil.

Emil has created an unparalleled audio experience that cuts deeper than other podcasts. It’s so personal that sometimes you think you’re reading someone’s diary, but the music woven throughout helps guide you to place where you end up looking back at yourself.

Perfect arc. Told brilliantly. Most of us know these characters. Emil guides us in such a patient way towards a finish in which we are greater, grown, good people. Speaking about music as an all around holistic means and the craft of music as a form of therapy. I have been entranced for all of...Read full review »

Thank you for this. Polvo has been my favorite band for decades. It is its own language. Libraness, as well. It was like having a secret; I knew who had the best voice, guitar technique, tone, production und ungodly clever songwriting skills. No one ever heard of them. If they did, wouldn’t get...Read full review »

This is my favorite podcast out there. It’s so well crafted. Emil’s sentence structures are so precise you think they must have been written and rewritten, edited and polished, but he manages to sound like he’s just talking to you personally. The content of his stories, along with distilled...Read full review »

There isn’t a way to review something this revolutionary. There is great depth here. I love the episodes “The Outsider,” “Rare Soundtracks,” “What Happens To A Guru,” “Satan Seller,” and many others. Who else makes music or tells stories like Emil?? No one.

Anyone who stars off a episode devoted to soundtracks with praise for Ivor Slaney gets a solid recommendation from me. This podcast is wonderfully explorative and insightful.

Emil really connects with his audience. The more I listen I feel like Emil is in my head sometimes. His in depth thought & explanation is worthy of a college course. He breaks down outsider music so well & his personal coming of age stories are 2nd to none. Treat yourself! Cheers🌟

Truly one of the only podcasts that I go back and listen to episodes again, just because I enjoyed the content so much. I was in High School and University in the early 90’s and Emil’s reflections on those times are relatable and compelling. Bittersweet pre-internet memories of the dig for...Read full review »

A guru once advised me: “Don’t seek affirmation for your art. Instead, ask yourself, ‘How can I be a more *powerful* artist?’” That guru, however, does not appear in this podcast.

Emil Amos has done something extraordinary with this podcast, weaving his own laconic storytelling with perfect music choices and entrancing soundscapes. Not to mention uncovering all sorts of musical hidden gems. I jump to listen to any new episode when it comes out, and you should too.

Really interesting and entertaining Podcast about (weird) underground music and life itself. Most of the time it's more like a radio show where Emil Amos shares his passion for music and anecdotes of his life than a traditional podcast. Also stellar sounding with an ear for detail, you...Read full review »

Drifter’s Sympathy offers intriguing insights into drug treks while retelling the coming of age stories that made one of America’s greatest musicians. Every episode marked in asterisks follow Amos’ musical background and showcases his vast musical knowledge. Existential and endlessly interesting.

This podcast is an amazing mix of rock/punk/outsider culture through the lense of someone who lived it. Great stories of personal triumph and growth along side troubling tales that challenge ones own understanding. Emil is a gift to us all, a true musician in an age of flimsy pretenders.
