Description
In this episode Millie chats to Shannon Calvert. Shannon is a lived experience leader after having a severe and enduring eating disorder for most of her life. Her personal experience inspired her advocacy to support the respect, rights, and appropriate treatment for those affected by eating disorders, mental ill-health and end of life care. As an educator and consumer advisor, she collaborates with clinicians and researchers in an advisory capacity, providing consultation and engagement toward systemic improvement in the eating disorders and mental health sector. She was recently appointed as the Lived Experience Co-Production Co-Lead at the Australian Eating Disorders Research and Translation Centre.
They discuss her severe and enduring battle with Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder, the importance of compassion in eating disorder care, grieving the loss of an eating disorder and the power of holding hope for people.
