“I have always been unabashedly positive about the influence of MuchMusic in my life (this would be essentially Canadian MTV to translate for USA readers. But different somehow). I did not have cable where I lived (still can’t at that location honestly). So I basically took over any TV with cable access and headed straight to MuchMusic, especially in the late 80s and all through the 90s. The VJs on there felt like friends, like we were having a conversation about music, sometimes politics, occasionally current events. A great escape during a great time in music history.
Sadly Much as I knew it and VJs as an occupation went away as I aged. But the people who had that groundbreaking job (and it was in the early 80s) still exist and do a myriad of different jobs now. Some related. Some not. This podcast (created by Erica Ehm, one of said VJs, and produced with assistance by Steve Anthony, also a VJ/DJ in his own right), IS a trip down memory lane. However, and more importantly, it is important is showing where a highly visible job such as VJ gets you. Where do you end up later? And how did that highly public job get you there, or NOT get you where you wished.
If you loved Rick The Temp, George, Erica, Christopher Ward, Bradford, Nam, Jen Hollett, Master T, Dan Gallagher, etc, or just CITY-TV in that era, subscribe. It’s worth it.”
