“Ugh, I want to like this podcast, I really do. Russell Kane is one of my favourite comedians and I enjoy his quirky cerebralness and truly believe he’s a great advocate for social mobility. But this is comedians dressing up serious characters and then have to all intents judge evil or genius and guess what, the typical liberal polarisation which they seem so fond of creeps in yet again with little balance. I don’t particularly like John Lennon or Richard Pryor but I respect the significant contribution both made to their field respectively. So it mystifies me that Lennon can be judged “evil” as he was middle class and beat his wife but Prior is a “genius” because despite beating many women and being at times a drug addled maniac is a victim of circumstance as judged by 3 socially righteous people of colour comedians. Wot a surprise. “Ah yes but it’s not serious it’s comedy” - but it’s not, it stops being comedy as soon as the serious topics are introduced and judgement is passed. At that point it once again becomes a binary decision with zero argument splashed with wokism and sadly does nothing to further any sort of middle ground or compromise. Comedy is at its best when it punches upwards and shines a light on inequality, but this is not about comedy or inequality so at that point who are you punching? I’m a bit disappointed if I’m honest.”
