Looking forward to more!
Loved this podcast and looking forward to many more. I think it’s clear that the fear of failure serves a powerful purpose. It drives introspection and forces one to honestly weigh the risk/reward of pursuing an objective. From an ancestral standpoint, the objective was quite often survival. The consequences were very high so our brain put great emphasis on the fear of failure. It was a powerful survival tool. Nowadays with the comforts of modern civilization, rarely are we making decisions that are literally life or death, however our brain still gives them equal weight. I think the main difference as Dr. McCabe points out is that the rate of exposure to failure has changed drastically. Our ancestors were exposed to failure at a higher rate and with greater consequences. The higher consequence of failure drove enormous focus that is probably only matched on the modern battlefield. They failed often but fought to survive. Through this high rate of overcoming the fear of failure they grew stronger and more resilient. Looking forward to Dr. McCabe’s in depth perspective in to the mind side of life!
