Captivating and mesmerizing
Paul Cooper is a master storyteller. This podcast is my favorite go to for when I’m playing Farming Simulator on the console. It’s a game where you don’t need to concentrate too much so you have time to make your thoughts wander off. The way mr Cooper takes your mind out of todays world and brings you along with him through the deserts of modern day Jordan or the rainforests surrounding ancient Mayan temples is sublime. He and his team do an astonishing job of painting the scene through storytelling and using background audio, song and speech, with that really taking you back thousands of years in time to places you have only ever once heard of. But they come alive as if you’re stood on the streets in the crowds as Sumerian kings parade by and massive temples are erected not far from you. If you only have the slightest interest in ancient history, this series is a must-listen. While I’m sat on the virtual plains, in my modern day tractor I look at the grains that grow around me and try to imagine how this world would have looked like 3000 years ago. Perhaps there’s more treasure below me than I could ever have imagined, only waiting to be unearthed by my plough shears and telling the story of a long lost civilization.
