Informative, fascinating and calming
For those of you who appreciate history, I recommend the Fall of Civilizations podcast. In each episode, they present the story of a civilization from its beginnings, through its rise to power and on to its end. They lay out the context that elevated the civilization, the elements that made it unique and the forces that tore it down. All of the stories are filled with enough detail and insight that you can really get a feel for how the people lived their lives and how they felt about their civilization. The presentation is not hyped but is delivered in a calm and clear voice with a little soft music in the background. I find listening to it very relaxing even though every story has an unhappy ending. They have done Inca, Assyria, Byzantium, Han dynasty, Aztec, Sumer, Songhai, Easter Island, Khmer, Greenland, Maya, Roman Britain, and the whole Bronze Age Collapse. I can’t wait for whatever comes next.
