Good series but could be better
I sympathize with Meacham’s perspective and he speaks and writes with considerable authority. The series is well crafted but oddly, I find the general thesis stated in ep. 1 rather poorly articulated. The Republicans — or as Americans like to say “the right” — are surely a dangerous threat to US democracy but are they simply a “gloomier” prospect? Rather a weak central claim that wouldn’t pass muster in a university history paper.

This podcast has opened my eyes to the current polarization between the Republican and Democratic parties. I am constantly hearing the media bashing one another, seemingly at war! Really appreciated the reasoned, systematic approach in this podcast. Indeed, it is helpful to look to our history to glean an understanding of the present. Enlightening and lovely to witness competence and craft.
