Questionable
His CBT methods are hardly a revolution in mental health, if anything it imparts a negative mood on the vulnerable. CBT assumes that negative thoughts are “cognitive distortions”, irrational thoughts by a crazy person. Some may say this is tough love, but it really is an insult to most people’s intelligence. Negative thoughts are not necessarily distorted, and often negative thoughts are the most clear and truthful. If you are in any unfortunate situation, feel disconnected, have nothing to be happy about, their approach will tell you that you’re an idiot. It’s cheap, impersonal therapy even when sitting across an actual therapist. They focus on symptoms, and never on root causes. The effectiveness of CBT keeps as therapy is greatly exaggerated. I’d even go as far to say that people lean on therapy too much as a cure-all, when most is pseudoscience.
