A dull but thorough high school research paper
I notice that most of the five star reviews for this podcast were written before this podcast dropped. Presumably, they are based on goodwill and an expectation that the podcast will be great. Instead, the finished, delivered product is very mediocre. It's written like a high school research paper. The few sources that are relied on are clumsily and constantly cited. The prose is very workmanlike. There is no sense of surprise, of tension, of suspense. The two narrators flatly read their essays without the slightest hint of storytelling "magic". It is difficult to take such lurid and titilating material and make it incredibly dull, but this podcast succeeds in doing exactly that. The first episode I listened to took twenty minutes to move to any point of interest in the erstwhile subject's biography. After numerous tedious digressions into explaining rudimentary psychological "insights", I had spent nearly half an hour learning that a bad childhood can negatively affect a child. It was dispiriting to note that there were two episodes devoted to the story. Some compression and some editing for impact are in order. I cannot recommend such a mediocre podcast when so many great ones are there for you to enjoy.Read full review »
