A touching story of long lost friendship and how perception can influence our personal narrative. Real and without gloss. Excellent

An interesting story, but not sure it was worthy of such a protracted podcast.

This is an exquisite podcast. A truly beautiful sad and ultimately happy ending. This should be made into a film. Debbie Gayle much love to you 💕

This is such a great story and going on the journey is amazing. Trying not to give too much away from the podcast. I have so many thoughts. I hope the main character knows how brave she truly was to have gone on this journey. I was 17 in 1984 and the USSR was a mysterious, scary place. For...Read full review »

A 15-minute story draaaaaaged out endlessly.
Fed-up in Fresno via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/26/22
This is a ridiculous podcast. It’s offensive to Natasha. It’s offensive to Russia. It’s the attention seeking narrative of a victimy - glass half empty - delusional seeming drama queen. The host’s mom just made her youthful thoughts into her truth. Bonkers.

Thank you Jake. I’m so glad this story was not lost. Both girls made courageous choices of different sorts. It is nice to know the bonds of two teenagers endured through all those years.

Interesting for the family but nowhere near enough story for a supposedly top rated podcast. Most interesting questions left unanswered. Precocious girl goes to Russia, finds not as good as thought she was at ballet. Girl gets homesick gets Unwell. Nice Russian person helps her to come home....Read full review »

It’s not that hard to find people. The host seems a bit inept.

I came upon this randomly, and absolutely loved it, and was moved to tears in the end. Loved the idea of researching a parent’s memory and gaining perspective, as well as the evolution of your mom’s perspective.

I listened all in one go. Heart-warming end. I had a crush on Michael Barishnikov too! A window into Soviet Russia in the 1970s and the importance of friendship and love.

Came upon this podcast and was totally enthralled and had to listen to all in one sitting! So happy this had a happy ending considering the mistreatment. (Greasy hair-lol🤣) I was able to see Mikhail Baryshnikov in a performance here in Los Angeles quite some years back-he was amazing!

Absolutely love this nuanced and wholesome lot told story for the host’s mum’s story and trauma. The investigation is well lauded out, questions are answered and the insight into a cold childhood, ballet dreams and real healing are heartwarming! Thank you for sharing this remarkable story!

I’ve absolutely loved listening to this story. It took me back to that love of ballet I had in the 70s and fascination we all had with USSR and the countries behind the iron curtain. As young children we only heard snip bits of life there and it seems incredible to think of Debbie aged 17 going...Read full review »

What a truly wonderful story ans a wonderful reminder of how grim life was in the Soviet Union. How can we still have apologists on the left in this country for that detestable regime
