It’s not just the subject matter and Matthew’s personality which drew me to this pod. I was first aware of it due to Matthew’s walk in Dorset with the excellent Ninebarrow, but I now know what all the fuss is about. Mr Bannister is a radio pro and a true fan of folk music. Like me he came to it...Read full review »

Bannister is one of the most creative people in this business. Been following him since his BBC outlook days. I’m glad he’s presiding over another great podcast.

Only discovered this the other day but it’s now my favourite podcast!

The host has a magnificent way of describing the surroundings so you barely notice that it’s all audio. It reminds me of another time when this was most folks’ only window to far off places. The music is of course beautiful but I really appreciate the stories: whether it’s reminiscences of the...Read full review »

Have been listening to this podcast in 2020 when I was literally binge listening whilst at work. This podcast brings me so much peace…. And I have discovered so many of my new favourite artists through it…. Wish there was more like it.

What a gorgeously beautiful podcast. Field recordings of a chat and a walk in wonderful surroundings accompanied by great music. A reminder that magic exists in our landscapes and music.

This podcast is a true gem. Beautiful, often touching human stories intertwined with travel sounds and music from great musicians. It’s a good way to get out of a Covid bubble and travel a bit without leaving home.

This podcast is an antidote to current distressing local and world affairs. A balm to soothe the soul, I’m not sure I could live without it. Thank you folk on foot for reminding us there is so much more to life. Love, laughter, the great outdoors & music. It doesn’t get much better than that ♡

I love this programme. Moving to north Wales from Wiltshire meant that folk music was much more difficult to find. Matthew B is a great presenter, and he lets the musician’s character shine. It is lovely to hear these familiar songs stripped of production and percussion!!

This podcast is consistently fascinating. Whether interviewing one of my favourite artists, or someone I’m less familiar with, Bannister finds interesting stories. Placing the interviews in a place makes these interviews unique. I always look forward to the episode.

Thanks so much for a wonderful podcast. Have just listened to the Johnny Flynn episode. The style of discussion helped to illustrate what a lovely person he appears to be and what inspiring music he plays. I just love the manner in which this podcast provides a great platform for the artists....Read full review »

I didn’t realise I really enjoy folk music until I stumbled on this after realising Matthew was doing something other than last words. I love his voice and thought it would be interesting. Not every musician suits my taste, probably more to do with me listening just before bed than the quality of...Read full review »

There is not one song of this podcast that looks familiair to me. I even do not know even one the works of the any artist that is performing in this podcast. But I do like this podcast. One of the least reasons is that all performers can sing and have a voice which is pleasant to hear when they...Read full review »

These conversations with the UK’s best folk musicians are simply priceless. If you are a folk enthusiast you’ll enjoy this well-produced and in-depth podcast which dives into this rich body of music and songwriting, and those who perpetuate and create it! Very nicely done, Matthew Bannister!

What lucid and youthful voice on her life, and most of ours too. Heard her and Ewan live In the early sixties whilst sitting on the floor of my upstairs school hall in Leicester. I like podcasts in a variety of forms and enjoy them all. Some tend to get lost in the ramblings of their presenters though. Here the rambling is at the very centre of things. Presented with polished, professional touch. Absorbing and totally enjoyable.

Kris Drever/Orkney is an astonishing episode. History ancient, modern and personal, social commentary spoken and sung, atmospheric, personal, profound. Beautiful musicianship and magical sound/soundscape. Headphones in for full effect. This episode alone should win every award going.
