Zero substance and no grasp on food sustainability
I would give episode one of Foods That Matter zero out of five stars. I am a regular listener to Travel That Matters and recently listened to the 11/21/2023 episode where Bruce Wallin interviews “Food Archeologist” John Robert Sutton. In that episode, Mr. Sutton discusses his new podcast, Foods That Matter, and the origins of tomatoes and coffee - I love this kind of reporting and information. During this Travel That Matters episode, Mr. Sutton also describes how he unknowingly ate whale while in Iceland and that he would never do it again. Today I listened to the first episode of Foods That Matter and wow was I disappointed. The episode was nothing like what was presented in Travel That Matters. For over 30 minutes, I listened to two men who you would assume had better intelligence, talk about how delicious all kinds of seafood taste and then talk about how farm-raised fish are being fed human remains. Mr. Sutton retold his story about going to Iceland and unknowingly trying whale, but this time he went on and on about how whale tastes better than almost anything. After that, the two men seemed to insinuate that whale might be a sustainable food. I found the entire discussion repulsive and very low brow. I was under the impression that Foods That Matter would be about the origins of food. For all of the travel and world experience Mr. Sutton and his guest have, they certainly have not read anything recent about climate change and food sustainability. I suggest they read all of the investigative journalism done by Ian Urbina. If all you want to hear is someone talk about how a food tastes without fun, archeological information and complete disregard for food sustainability, then this is the podcast for you.

Very good and interesting episode featuring the owner of Watkins. Talked in depth about the vanilla industry as well as spice sourcing.
