I’m so happy to hear some history that isn’t about politics today!

Like the facts for the most part but delivery is like a script

Lots of informative vignettes from history often placed in a larger context that usually are not taught in formal courses. I’ve spent many hours enjoying this podcast.

I really enjoy listening to the podcast! The length is a little short, but the nice thing about that, is you just get these very interesting short stories, loaded with fact and not a lot of added fluff…which I think is great.

Interesting podcast but the host talks so quickly

Very interesting. Off the beaten path.

I really enjoy this podcast and the effort all the presenters go to provide well researched information on obscure topics.

I like this podcast. But the Evelyn Nesbit episode needs to be addressed because the podcaster literally says that two historical figures raping children, one of whom kidnapping women and beat them, is “eccentric” and “quirky”. This is obviously disgusting, especially because she refers to one of...Read full review »

Loving the stories, narrative and style of this podcast. This is a great podcast with an inviting hook - the stories you miss when you bypass the footnotes! Subscribe and enjoy yourself now! Alycia, host of Civics & Coffee

I can’t stand christine’s voice. It’s so harsh. It needs some audio processing. Unsubscribing

Great podcast, wish you guys updated more frequently and had longer episodes. But what is going on with Lucy’s voice? Not to be petty but what exactly is happening? It’s like she’s joking with her over pronunciation but then I don’t think she is. Who is speaking like this? I’m sure she is lovely...Read full review »

Good content but way too quiet! Makes it difficult to focus even when I turn the volume all the way up.

I visited this podcast a few times during the school year when I put together my lessons (HS history). This was a great resource and gave me a lot of little interesting details that I could add to my lectures to make them more interesting. Will definitely be using this again next year. Thank you...Read full review »

Good content but... Volume levels between episodes are very inconsistent. Elizabeth reads too fast. Random "thumping" heard, especially in the Georgia episode.Read full review »

Each episode beguiles, wrapping tales around one like a warm blanket on a winter’s day til one is insensible of everything but the images & scenes of these wonderful hosts. I love history but the footnotes are always best of all, bringing people & times back, vividly fresh to life.

I love this podcast. Only think is Lucy’s voice is hard to listen to.

One of my very favorite history podcasts - they make it engaging and fun ways to explore often the lesser discussed topics in history and bring them front and center. It is a wonderful podcast with all of the hosts being enthusiastic and incredibly knowledgable on their subjects and I look...Read full review »

Charming, quirky, and insightful podcasting by professional historians. Conclusive proof that the best stories really are in the footnotes!

I’m a new subscriber and I’ve only listened to a couple different podcasts so far while I’m at work, but the ones I’ve listened to are educational and interesting. I have never heard of “The Emu War” before today, and I have to say it’s probably one of my favorite history stories to date now. If...Read full review »

Love, love, love this podcast, however, one presenters accent is annoyingly fake.

How can you not love Footnoting History? a) You have a wild assortment of little-known or -appreciated topics, and you are bound to learn something. b) You have an amazing posse of historians writing and presenting the episodes. The divide-and-conquer approach means we listeners get a constant...Read full review »

Podcast is just OK, BUT- the host named "Lucy" has an incredibly annoying and very obviously fake British accent. She says in one episode she "studied abroad in England for a time"- (groan). Comes off as incredibly pretentious. Can't listen when she talks about her topic....Read full review »

History particularly the more obscure stories are definitely the most interesting
Amandasatoz via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 10/16/18
Such varied topics, but always the story is more interesting than I think it will be from the episode title—and so often I learn not only about the topic, but about the process of researching and studying history.

History podcasts are modern day storytelling. The content of this podcast is compelling but lacks the extemporaneous nature of traditional storytelling.
DADColvin via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 08/25/18
While some of the earlier episodes are not great, they have hit their stride now. Plus the topics are quite fresh and intriguing, not something many people would already know about. And they are actual historians, so they seem to genuinely understand what they’re talking about, and are not out to...Read full review »

The content is interesting, but what really separates this from a lot of other history podcasts is that the presenters focus on the story, not themselves. Articulate, well-written.

For history buffs, this is a great podcast. The hosts know their stuff, they write well, and most of them have very listenable voices and presentation styles. I am not interested in hearing about the political opinions of the hosts, especially when they are coming from a place of immaturity. Great content. I suggest the host tell the story more naturally. Each sentence is stated with the same inflection at the same part of the sentence. Sing songy like. Distracting.

When the topic interests me, this is unbeatable for follow-ups - the website has the best links to salient writing. I appreciate that. Sometimes the topics should be in the footnotes IMHO, but I don't expect to find every episode scintillating.Read full review »

One of the best. The sense of risk in listening to people talk about various subjects they have "researched" was hard to overcome. Given the shallowness, unprofessionalism and ego-quirks of many podcasters, and the (let's say) apparent lack of real experience among so many, hearing...Read full review »
