I really really want to like it.... but I can’t
So the concept of this show is to talk about underrated movies in a more positive light than what the general public perceives. While good in theory, I ultimately walk away from their podcast with little desire to watch the movie they are currently discussing. Whats more frustrating is that most of the movies they choose to talk about are ones that I really truly enjoy. And while they say they love most of the movies, sometimes i feel like they get so caught up in the nitpicking and negative aspects of their reviews that their overall positive rating definitely comes across as a negative one. I came back after taking a break from this podcast to see if it had improved at all, so I listened to their recent episode on Saw. It seems like one of the hosts has shifted his views or maybe gotten away from the original intent of this podcast a bit. He kepy saying whats the point of Saw? It has no purpose to exist. What is its message? Things of that nature. This just really rubbed me the wrong way. Cant a movie just be meant to entertain? Does everything have to be a masterpiece or try to hammer home some deep ideaological point to deserve merit? Even some of his points and counterpoints were just filled with such emotional negativity and hypocrisy. I just dont want to listen to that on a podcast. For me, i love listening to honest discussion on film. I hate nitpicking, which is what I feel a majority of the episodes ive listened to tend to dwell on. And simply the biggest issue for me regaring this podcast is that afer listening to them talk about movies that I have seen and generally thought postively on when I saw them, I do not walk away wanting to go watch those movies at home. Compare that reaction to the ones I have with other related podcasts such as Feelin Film and Cinescope, where after listening to an episode I usually make a mental note that I want to watch that film again very very soon. Underrated is something I've tried to get behind since its inception, but ultimately just leaves me feeling bummed out about films that I love.Read full review »

With all the bandwagoning on the Internet nowadays, It's refreshing to hear honest objective reviews on movies that aren't trying to tell me what to think. Gabriel and James' reviews can be counted on to be objective and honest and even though you can tell when they really like a...Read full review »
