Best. Podcast. Ever.
(Preface: Joey is the best sound editor!) I listen to a lot of podcasts, and have never written a review for any of them. In fact, I have never written an online review for anything. But this is just too good. After Frangela started releasing their podcast on Wednesdays, I realized I was unconsciously looking forward to the middle of the week - and anything that can get me more excited about a Wednesday than a Friday clearly deserves a review. The show is smart, funny, and fresh. With a lot of political comedy out there these days (clearly there is good material for it) it can be hard to pick which shows to go with, but Frangela offers a great balance of information and laughs, and unlike many of the shows that tend to recycle the same type of jokes, Frangela is always original, offering a fresh perspective and hilarious commentary. Also, I should point out that although I have been a longtime fan, I only decided to write this review after I heard their most recent episode, and realized that they are true professionals with a talent for this that is incredibly rare. This struck my attention when I heard them do their first advertisement. I know the company (begins with a Z-and ends in a -cruiter ) as I have heard them advertised on other podcasts I listen too, but for the first time I learned what the company does because I was actually paying attention to the ad. I think this all had to do with how Frangela used a change in cadence to grab the listeners attention. You see, most podcasts (either by novices, or the NPR type - which I do also like) have hosts who speak very slowly, and when they get to an ad, they either continue in the same cadence, or perhaps speed up because they are reading, both of which I automatically tune out. But Frangela does the opposite. Their show is already fast paced, (which is clearly becoming the preference what with all the people who now listen to the slower ones at double speed) and I love how it has the speed of a fun conversation you'd have with best friends. But when they went to introduce the ad, they actually slowed down their cadence, as one would when they are saying something rather important, and the shift in rhythm caused me to actually pay more attention to what they were saying instead of "tune out an ad". (Now that I actually listened to what the company does, I have to say it sounds pretty good, and if I were either looking for employees or employment I would try it. But that is a side note.) Anyway, it made me realize what a special talent these two have for radio/podcasting. It's not something that comes naturally to most who broadcast, it's either gained through years of perfecting the craft, or a very rare innate ability like Rush Limbaugh has. Wait, did I just compare Frangela to Rush Limbaugh?! Lord forgive me!!! (But honestly, he is one of the best ever at talk formats and ad placement, so, take it as a complement???) Anyway, I just think that in this day and age when everyone and their uncle can have a podcast or YouTube channel, those like Francis and Angela, who have rare and real talent for this, shouldn't go unnoticed. And that is why I am taking the time to write. So, if you are advertising with them, you'll be happier because your business will be better. If your listening to them you'll be happier because your week will be better. And as for me, the only thing that could make me happier would be more Frangela! (Well, now that I mention it, the only thing that could make Frangela better would be more Frangela! Seriously though, if I had one critique it would be that the show needs to be longer or on more days. With the current pace of our weekly news cycle going a mile a minute, sometimes there is just too much news to cover in such short time it doesn't allow them enough space to really into a topic and get in a roll, which is when some of the best jokes come. There are enough political comedy shows that are full of one liners. Frangela gets even better when they don't have to rush through material and have the time to just riff on stuff, like how there could ever possibly be a black white supremacist? Or the amazing question of when do white children finally become adults? Or how there was a time in this country when people weren't so spoiled, and were happy just to get a basket for their imaginary bike that they could ride to the vegetable cart...) Point being, this podcast is amazing and I absolutely love it.Read full review »

These ladies are up to the minute, ripped off the headline fresh. Their weekly review of the news is essential in today's crazed political news cycle. The feature Idiot of the Week is jaw-droppingly funny. But mostly they give me hope and belly laughs. Download it. You're welcome!

I need this podcast; for the humor, intelligence, passion, outrage, vulnerability and telling it like it is.
