Starts of good, but Host takes it into the dumpster
With the chronic mispronunciation of the Montrose, MONTTTrrose reminds me of the Julia Fox meme “Uncut Ghheemhhhms” I wanted to be one of those naysayers and thumb my nose up to those complaining about the all over the board pronunciations of this town. It is a mystery because there are even town members that will pronounce slightly different, but it is the host’s pronunciation is the obvious outlier. The correct pronunciation isn’t the real issue for me, it’s the exaggeration of the name that is like nails down a chalkboard over and over again. It made it difficult to listen to - it’s a podcast, so we rely on the narration, and the speakers voice, to tell the story right. (And I say when in doubt, go with the majority which is anything but the host’s hatchet job). In episode 6, the reporter inexplicably goes down a Body Snatcher rabbit hole, trying to expose different institutions and crimes that just don’t exist (unfortunately). She goes as far as repeatedly calling companies, hunting down researchers to make them admit a story that just isn’t there. This was alarming to me since her only job is to report on the actual story, not summon an Erin Brockovitch moment. She rails against an exhibit on bodies that was put together many years ago by a plastination company making it sound like it was a ghoulish and perverse exhibition of the body snatchers and that no one else visiting liked it, which is not true. It was huge global success and was very educational - I attended the exhibition and I am not an aspiring body broker lol. This interjection of conspiracy theories and amateur investigative journalism is obnoxious. Lastly, the FBI agent comes across as someone who got assigned a case the subject matter of which he knew very, very little about. It is utterly disturbing that these are the people who can lock you up for life. He emphasizes that patients and the deceased are not fairly compensated. The fact is tissue banks and human remains have been sold for research for many, many years and the victims do not get compensated to prevent people from selling themselves, or their loved ones, for an ear, and arm or a kidney. I am shocked they can’t see how this would open up an ethical can of worms. This left me even more leary of the FBI that is always popping up. Overall, I think it is unfortunate that the host butchered (no pun intended) MMAANNNT (heavy accent on the MAAANTT) ROSE. It made a fascinating and macabre story about two very disturbed and terrible people difficult to listen to.

Fun story for neophytes. Nothing new for seasoned vets. Unfortunately, the most memorable part of the podcast is the narrator’s bizarre propensity for overcomplicating his duties. The speaker’s cadence, delivery, and unnecessary imagining of a “movie version” of this story make it almost...Read full review »

I was very much looking forward to this podcast, unfortunately I had to stop listening within 5 minutes due to the host’s stilted presentation.
