If you’re interested in inside stories on the technical side of how records are made then this is the podcast for you. Stellar guests that have made amazing records over the last 4-5 decades interviewed by guys who are recording engineers and know what questions to ask. This allows the guests to...Read full review »

As a sound engineer in a former life (perhaps my biggest claim to fame being having my ass fired as a tea boy from Trident in their less glorious mid-eighties years!) I’ve been thoroughly enjoying this podcast. The war stories, studio histories, tales of the making of classic albums – it’s all...Read full review »

Covers just the right grounds to keep novices and experts of recording engaged at once. The hosts aren’t obsessed with hearing themselves talk like other music podcasters. Interview choices are impeccable. They’re actual veterans of the trade, and having come from the east coast rock scene,...Read full review »

I don’t know how Stewie puts up with John. Annoying bastard. Loved the interviews with Shelly Yakus. Anything with Will Wittman is great and I’ve come to appreciate Kurt Vile and Drive By Truckers more, can you believe it, through this podcast. If only John would talk less about himself, sheesh.

Thank you! You guys have become part of my morning routine while touring for the past few years. Those 6am lobby calls are a little less crappy when I start my days listening to you guys. For me it started as a young naïve musician chasing that all to illusive, hit you in the chest kick drum sound... next thing you know I’m buying some thing called a compressor... before you know it I’m a full blown addict locked away in some dark dingy basement, with padding on the walls, playing...Read full review »

I'm a late bloomer as an engineer, producer. Born in '66' of Italian imigrant father and Brooklyn born Italian 1st gen mother, my 1st love was and has always been music, but I did a thousand other things instead. I'm struck by how much music-making history is in these podcasts, told through stories in and out of the studio by the best studio engineers of an entire generation. Also of note is the clear tracking of the analog to digital shift in studio engineering and in how studios were run "then...Read full review »
