We conclude our Gospel Worship series by considering the ordinance of males having their head uncovered and the female's hair being covered with a fabric covering during public worship from 1 Corinthians 11:2-16. We find that Paul's arguments deal with nature, heaven, and the covering of the woman's glory - and none of the argumentation made by the apostle deal with culture. And so, we find an ordinance that abides even today, and consider the history of its removal from the church - due to...

In light of the Super Bowl, we consider the practice of Sabbath keeping, and how worldly pleasures are to be put away so that we might find our delight in Christ.

We return to our Gospel Worship series and turn to the primary element in the worship of God - which is the preaching of the Word. Above all other elements in the worship service, it is the preached Word that Christ has given the highest place. We seek to understand how the "conscionable hearing" the preached Word is an act of worship we offer to God. The text is 1 Corinthians 1:17-31.

We return to our Gospel Worship series and having considered our need for reverent conduct in a prior sermon, we consider next our need for carefulness in public worship. That we must prepare carefully to come into the House of God, to listen intently to the voice of God, to pray with thoughtfulness, and to pay our vows - all done by faith that God is and is the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Otherwise, the Bible says that we offer the sacrifice of fools and we do not please God....

In the baptismal service, we briefly return to our Gospel Worship series and consider why it is that only ministers of the gospel (pastors) should administer the sacraments. That Christ has called and ordained certain men to be stewards of the gospel mysteries found in His Word, and so, has also made them the stewards of His sacraments which are His Word made visible. We will also consider the great gospel mysteries in the Scripture that are revealed to us that we might understand how baptism...

We return to our gospel worship series by turning to Exodus 32 to see that the imposition of new holy days (Exodus 32:5) by church leaders and not God is outside the power of the church. In the New Testament, only a single holy day remains - the weekly Sabbath. Leaders in the Church must extirpate all other impositions, as men like Moses and Hezekiah removed the corruptions of worship that entered the Church in their time. Preached from Exodus 32:5.

We return to our series on Gospel Worship and consider our conduct in public worship. That our conduct in worship must be a reflection and acknowledgement of Who God is - the Judge of All and a Consuming Fire. That the gospel administration of the covenant of grace requires not less reverence, but more reverence, than the administration of the covenant at Sinai and by faith, our conduct in public worship, should have reverence and godly fear of meeting with an all-consuming God that we can...

We return to our Gospel Worship series and consider the warrant to have special days of Thanksgiving where we are called to praise and bless the LORD for His special deliverances in the course of His Providence towards us. We will consider that from both Psalm 107 and Esther 9:20-22.

We consider the communion, or joint participation, we have in Christ shown in the common table, common bread, and common cup shared by those who partake of the Supper. We find that sharing the table, bread, and cup has spiritual significance and we should not go away from Christ's institution. Preached from 1 Corinthians 10:16-22 on Sabbath PM 02/20/22.

We continue our series on worship and consider the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Supper. We reject that blasphemous view of the Supper found in Rome's transubstantiation but embrace the presence of Christ in the Supper by His Spirit as the Word of God teaches. Preached from 1 Corinthians 10:1-22 Sabbath PM on 01/30/22

We return to our series on gospel worship and consider the sacraments. We learn how the Lord has designed these means of grace and their place in the worship of God and the Christian's life. That doctrinal sermon was preached from Romans 4:11-12 and 1 Corinthians 10:16-17 on Sabbath PM 12/21/21.

As our series on gospel worship continues, we consider what accompanies the singing of the psalms and find that God prescribes only the human voice in the gospel era. That the instruments of worship were tied to the Levitical priesthood and that the instruments of the Old Testament were abolished when the sacrifices were abolished. But now, the Lord wants the Church to sing acapella - the sacrifice of praise being the fruit of our lips that comes as the product of plucking the strings of our...

In our third sermon on Exclusive Psalmody we discover the author of the psalms is not David but the Holy Spirit. As the author of the psalms is perfect and infallible so too are the words that He has composed. That no mere man can compare to the divine composer of the psalms. In addition, we see how the psalms are new songs after the advent of Jesus Christ and to sing a new song is a command to sing the psalms with the light of the gospel shining upon them. Finally, our psalm singing is of no...

As our series on Worship continues, we consider the first major objection to singing psalms exclusively - that we do not sing the name 'Jesus' in worship. We discover what the name of Jesus portends - that He is the LORD - and that something better than the bare name of Jesus is found in the psalms: His very presence. We experience Jesus Christ when we sing the psalms with His Spirit and have fellowship with Him. Preached Sabbath PM from Colossians 3:16, and Philippians 2:5-11 on 09/19/21.

As our series on worship continues, we begin to investigate the individual elements of worship. We begin with the element of worship that is sung praise. We ask what God has instructed us to sing in the public worship of God. The answer is: His 150 inspired psalms. In this sermon, we consider how the exclusive psalmody position fits the pillars of worship we have considered thus far. We also consider how the exclusive psalmody position is derived from the Scripture. Lastly, we remember that...

As our series on gospel worship continues, we are exhorted to know what distinguishes elements of worship and circumstances of worship. We find that the lack of clarity on this has led to chaos in the worship of the churches of God. But God has said that He is not the author of confusion but of peace and wants all things done decently and in order. To understand the distinction between elements and circumstances allows us to be confident that we are not offering strange fire - but instead are...

As our series on worship continues, we consider the rule for worship - what is called the Regulative Principle. A principle that comes from the Bible - which teaches that whatever is not commanded is forbidden in worship. In this sermon we are exhorted to hear of the heart of the principle and also discover how the principle glorifies God and protects the conscience of the worshiper. Preached on Sabbath PM 05/02/21.Of the Regulative Principle of Worship…I. Its doctrine.II. Its heart.III. Its...

As our series on worship continues, we consider the public worship of God. We hear what distinguishes it from secret and family worship. The great glory it brings to God. The great glory that the worship enters into - "the holiest" through the blood of Jesus. Public Worship is most necessary - as its neglect leads to apostasy. As well, we see that Christ gives leadership of Public Worship to church officers and not civil magistrates or the unordained.Public worship:I. Is most glorifying and...

In the first sermon in our series on worship, we are exhorted to understand the gravity of worship. That through the charred bodies of Nadab and Abihu - we recognize that we are to draw near to a holy God by hallowing Him. This is the foundation of worship and is necessary before we even consider His prescriptions for worship. Preached Sabbath PM on 04/18/21 from Leviticus 10:3.Outline:I. A definition of worship.II. The holiness of worship.III. Our conduct in worship.
