18- Our Thoughts on Insurance Companies and Information Online
Listen now
Description
Ashley and Rebecca from The Crohn's & Colitis Dietitians talk about all things IBD-related. In this episode, we dive into the changes we would like to see with insurance companies and how we navigate information online.  We discuss some recent news about lawsuits brought against insurance companies and how we hope these can shake things up to bring about some change. We would love to see more compassionate care and for the insurance model to not only be based on profit. We have found that there is a lack of coverage for many vital treatments for IBD patients and we would also like to see medical nutrition therapy covered in the future.  We talk about how we are wary of information online, looking for evidence and being aware of biases. We tend to be cautious of any claims for cures and remember that there is not one straightforward answer for everyone. We understand that when people don't feel well they can be vulnerable but sometimes just trying anything to feel better can be harmful. We discuss the power of nutrition and how one particular treat we both love induces freedom and joy!
