Description
Would you employ an ex offender? ~ How hairdressing changes lives Diane, a Hairdresser & Lecturer, works in HMP SEND in Guildford. She delivers the Hairdressing NVQ levels 1-3 in partnership with Milton Keynes College.  After training to become an educator so that she could give something back to the industry, she now has an extremely rewarding job role where she can literally help to change someone's future. We look at how the programme is so valuable within the prison, and how engaged & committed the prisoners are, appreciating the value of what they are learning. Diane shares some of her former students' successes to prove how effective this opportunity can be. Diane describes the procedures of the prison, and how she feels very safe teaching there, with a very diverse range of students and clients. She also highlights how the hairdressing industry has a lower than average hiring rate of ex- offenders, and how they could prove to be a real asset to an employer, and deserve a second chance.
