Sport in society
Slate's podcasts, and Hang Up and Listen in particular, offer rich content with well-informed and amiable hosts. Topics range from esoteric discussions of small-country sports politics to the creation and analysis of new sports metrics from today's wealth of statistics. Politics, petty grudges, and the things you didn't see in the NHL or SEC last week from 3 guys who have a pretty good time discussing it. The more you listen, the more you are rewarded with the back and forth between the hosts. I'm more of a sports "generalist" and would glaze over if subjected to an hour of NFL Sports Shouting- this ain't that. The recent move to invite more guests and topic-specific hosts is a good one, but HUAL makes my Mondays regardless. Also, this is your only podcast for dramatic re-tellings of Scrabble "battles" and the most contentious trivia from the oddball mind of Mike Pesca.Read full review »

Refreshing after too much drive-time sports radio repetition. Discussions are interesting, in depth, and fun. This is regular Monday night listening for me.

Good as long as you aren't looking for commentary on women's sports.Read full review »
