I heard about this podcast from the book “We See Each Other” by Tre’vell Anderson. Once I’d finished reading I immediately looked this show up and binged it. Miriam’s story was discussed with so much love and care, while also addressing what her story as a trans woman on a dating competition show...Read full review »

Really enjoying the storytelling on this podcast

I hadn’t heard of this show and wouldn’t have watched it anyway. All these years later for the producer to still try to blame the men was astounding. They used Miriam for their own ends as well as the other contestants, how they thought this was okay defies belief. Without wanting to spoil he’s a...Read full review »

A beautifully, all angles take on a fascinating story. Thanks for your work!

Overall fairly ok podcast, but leaves me feeling confused on what the main message is here. I believe the podcast was created to be more pro-trans than it delivers. I came away with a great sense of the struggle of many trans people but a) duping men on the show in name of entertainment was...Read full review »

Well produced, well told, narrator was really clear and easy to listen to, never boring and for the most part seemed to try to be fair to everyone involved. Where it goes wrong for me was when the sex work and substance abuse were completely glossed over as contributors to Miriam’s suicide. As...Read full review »

title says it all. I have no sympathy for miriam. she and the producers decided to dupe these people. it was cruel and ridiculous. Why should anyone feel sorry for her?

This show is proof that blind acceptance of the trans life is damaging and intellectually dishonest. Miriam’s story is filled with all the ways she was a victim and unable to make better choices for herself - super frustrating. NO ONE points out that clearly she was psychologically unstable and...Read full review »

Fascinating. Sad. Challenging. In todays world this ‘project’ was a poorly chosen and stinks of bad taste and entertainment at the expense of others…and for the financial benefit of big wigs! Interesting podcast to give ‘food for thought’ to address the ever expanding and growing conversation...Read full review »

im not sure if it was the script or the narration but it all felt so clunky, like it was the first read through. It didn’t feel authentic at all. Still, really good to go so in depth into a particularly odd and particularly memorable moment in reality TV.

An interesting and tragic story

I felt everyone in this story was trying to elevate themselves to being a maverick, a boundary pusher, a visionary. In actuality everyone comes off as shallow and kind of gross. The producers of the Something About Miriam show claimed to want to push acceptance. So they got a bunch of...Read full review »

Yes, Miriam was a participant in the show, but she was also exploited by the show creators. As were the men. I feel empathy for both. You don’t have to pick one or the other. Incredible & heartbreaking story, amazing host.

A needed story about the humanity of a woman exploited by a cruel world. I’m glad I know of her so I can honor her

Ok
Actually pretty riveting but total exploitation of Miriam and the men. The host is annoying.

Amazing podcast about Miriam and the harsh reality of being a trans person in the early 2000’s. Great fun to have this story told as I can’t find much paper trail online. R.I.P Miriam

I am a german CIS woman and this Podcast helps me a lot to understand better. What a terrible sad story. I am so sorry that society doesn’t seem to be able to accept and appreciate all of us. Thank you for this valuable story, well and sensitively told. Keep up the good work. Love from Germany.

OK, I wanted to listen to this with an open mind. However, the underlying message becomes clear if you listen to the whole thing. They’re trying to make heterosexual men be attracted to trans women in the name of “acceptance”. If that is where this society is going, we are doomed. The producers...Read full review »

Trace Lysette is a great narrator of this story! Sad to see so many people coming to the reviews just to spew their transphobic garbage. The Jesus you hateful people go on and on about told you to love everyone…you’re doing it wrong!

I am all for equal rights, let people do what they want, live free etc. etc. etc. And I think people can dress the way they want do what they want and see what they want. The story about the show is great! Very interesting. Definitely makes you think about society and sexuality. I think if being trans makes you happy- great! But if you date someone you need to disclose it, otherwise you’re being deceptive. What the show execs and Miriam did was definitely immoral....Read full review »

Interesting story, but with an obvious agenda. This is far too sympathetic to Miriam whose behaviour was grossly unethical. The producers aren’t angels here either but Miriam knew that the men on this program would be falling in love with a woman, and not a man pretending to be a woman. I’m not...Read full review »

I am sorry but this entire story was very depressing and left me sick inside. This person obviously had some huge identity issues and was never able to find help. Good story that’s well produced but the narrative about Miriam is way off. She was not the victim of the show, she was a participant. The men were the victims of the show. The podcast never calls Miriam to task for agreeing to deceive the men on the show. It justifies it by saying she was using the show to out herself to the world 🙄. She just is not a narrator. I can’t listen to anymore of this because I can just see her reading a script and it’s excruciating. Wondery, just hire a professional. You know better.

I thought it an interesting story that became tedious with a present days lens. The nexus between the participants eventual death and a reality show was nebulous at best.

I remember this being on TV and the furore that surrounded it. I found it a repellent concept at the time but couldn’t articulate why so just avoided . Trace is a fantastic host and the series is upsetting but tells an important story . I wonder if they contacted Tim Vincent about it all ?

The number of adverts, the script the narrator uses and the music is more distracting than anything, and made it hard to listen to the story.
