Waiting and Seeing-EB
I was a huge fan of season one and have been listening to George's episodes over and over again throughout this year; so I was/ and am thrilled to hear that George is finally back with new episodes. I loved the live show, with George’s mini bildungsroman from St Raph’s Estate (I used to live nearby) to Queen Elizabeth's Boys' School. Also super interesting were the interviews with DJ Target, Hip Hop Psyche, Sonita Alleyne, Holly Branson and Temi Mwale. The first 'proper’ episode, Sabrina’s Boy, was on form too even though, as a black woman, I was never a fan of 00s Gangsta rap (too masochistic, misogynistic, homophobic and self-hating for me). And then Bedtime Story and Writer’s Block…there seemed to be a bit of Sanyu’s World in it, but the main idea didn’t quite feel developed enough. I loved that the first season dealt with burning topical issues in black British communities, such as poverty, the broken prison system, urban music and the concept (and problem) of 'home' for the diaspora; and I love George’s experimentations, which worked so well with the journey episodes and Sanyu’s World, I felt like it didn’t work quite so well here. A Night to Remember returned to form and I wish George would talk more about external realities rather than so much dwelling on the brilliance and complexity of his own mind, but it’s still early days. I’m waiting and looking out for more episodes like the brilliant ones on slave auctions in Libya and freedom of Speech and Bobby Wine in Uganda. Only time will tell!Read full review »

Pure Brilliance. Story telling at its finest interlaced with fact and music that stays with you long after you’ve stopped listening. A wake up call for the ignorant whether that be intentional or unintentional. Everyone should listen. Everyone should learn.

Nothing like it. Using scriptures to paint pictures. Creating images I’ve never thought of before, giving insight to places I’ve never been before. This is raw, the see before saw.

Many Thanks to George The Poet for continuing to articulate what a lot of people are going through and need to hear effectively. Listening to the podcast has been a journey of learning and continues to bring light and depth to many conversations that I have had.
