A very good show
This is my favorite podcast. And despite the description of being focused on the mountain region of Kentucky, the health topics covered and the approach taken are broad-ranging. (I live in Silicon Valley, so that’s saying something!) The host, Dr. Tony, is smart, engaging, and maybe a bit corny (part of his disarming style)....anything but a stiff, dispassionate, white-coated practitioner. He has his regular lay-person side kicks (Jesse Robinson or Rick Phillips) who ask the down-to-earth questions and keep the humor rolling, as well as his regular physician associates who can really talk turkey. The shows always have a chosen theme and usually feature a special guest--anyone from a cardiac specialist to a road-smart state trouper. Dr. Tony also livens up the mix by including a tongue-in-cheek ”sponsor”, a health concern sub-theme that he sheds light on at the beginning of each of the show’s three segments. The Health Matters show is fun and very informative without ever going over your head. I highly recommend it.Read full review »

I live in New Orleans. I used to listen to this show on MSPR when I was in grad school while driving to work and would catch a bit of it. Either its really good or I'm a creature of habit because I've listened weekly since probably 2010.
