Fox is a Rockstar
This podcast is a goldmine of information, especially for those seeking advice on high-risk pregnancies or to simply learn more about prenatal care with an obstetrician. Dr. Fox is a stellar host and does a great job listening (not interrupting his guests, which many other hosts do--lookin at you Dr. Berlin) and asking relevant questions. The biggest hole in this podcast is that Natey is a bit "OB-y" and not always leaning towards/suggesting (or ever saying explicitly that) birth is a normal, physiological event (yes, sometimes birth needs medical intervention I get that, but many times it does not). When talking about procedure or policies at the hospital or during prenatal care, he'll often say things like "evidence" and "studies" but they are not cited and oftentimes they are not up to date, depending on the topic. From what I can tell, he does not often discuss the power of a woman's body and her capability to take ownership over her experience and to birth her baby the way she wants. He might say something like, "you should probably just do what your provider suggests" --which is not terrible, but it's also rooted in a distrust and fear that is oh so prevalent in the birth culture in this country. I dinged a star for this reason. To reiterate, he does an excellent job of discussing perinatal care topics and seems like a lovely human. He could improve his talks by including more stories of normal, uncomplicated birth and how he supports that as an OB. It would be really refreshing and encouraging to hear him talk more about women trusting their bodies and their innate abilities to birth their babies.Read full review »

So helpful for me to understand what’s going on in my wife’s health and pregnancies.

Useful and digestible - it strikes the balance between the crunchy midwifery podcasts and the highly medicalized ones. I don’t enjoy the political takes though.

This podcast is so informative and clearly explained. You can tell how much Dr. Fox and his guests care about their patients. A pleasure to listen to.
