Host interrupts to tell you what has just been said

I have to say that the first episode was really great, pulled you in and hooked you. After that, it sort of degraded. It was a real stretch to make this the 8 actual episodes to reveal the answer to the main question. By the time this was done, the last few episodes were hashing over all the...Read full review »

Let me save you the time. It’s not hemmingway’s Picasso. This podcast did a great job reeling me in on 1st episode, then it quickly goes down hill from there. Why should I keep listening when there’s maybe 1 decent person in this story. Sorry but this podcast was a huge waste of time and has the...Read full review »

Horrible.
Engman19 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 01/04/22
It required effort to endure the arrogant attitude of the host, and terrible pronunciation of most names/locations in Spanish and French. Even if you can only speak English, you can at least research how to say Picasso or Françoise. It’s not that hard. The story was super interesting and I wish...Read full review »

Would have been 5 stars, but the women are so condescending it takes away from the story.

I rarely give a 5 star review. But this deserves it! Very well researched ( I guess!), and very well presented. This story had me addicted not only because of the details, but also because of the way that it was told & presented. Good job goys! I highly recommend this intriguing tale!

I bet you can guess the outcome without wasting 50 minutes of your life.

The presenter has a fun voice and tells the story very nicely. But man was this show drawn out. 7 episodes that could’ve been compressed into 3 episodes. Also. This isn’t really about Hemingway or the Picasso painting. It’s a podcast about a guy named steve. The painting really only features in...Read full review »

A great way to tell an interesting story

What a great mystery! So many famous names involved! BTW… how much do art dealers know anyway? I believe Leah and the other journalists did more to track down the actual truth- Stevie, you have a f**cking Picaso!
Tulips21 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/08/21
I gave four stars because I feel like the backstory had a bit too much focus. I felt it was a bit belaboured for lack of a better word. It could have been tighter and the pace would have been better.

Compelling story but jeeze that voice. You don’t need to sound like a Kardashian for validation, you knooooooowah?

After listening to the 6th episode twice, I was amazed to find there are not more. Is there another season? Resolution is a wonderful thing.

Steve sr and Jr. are story tellers. I don’t believe 3/4 of what they say. Especially the Jr story of him grabbing a gun putting in his mouth then somehow speaking with a gun in his mouth? Also as a trimmer he isn’t doing the work of 3 trimmers. If so it’s so mids.

This podcast is so thrilling. It's not a subject I would normally be interested in but the host makes it so exciting. Can't wait until the next episode!Read full review »

I have major issues with podcasts, like this one, that fawn over mediocre white criminals who exploited a system that criminalized and brutalized People of Color, without bothering to explore that relationship. Kough isn’t special. How many people suffered down the food chain as a result of his...Read full review »

Beautifully produced. Love the music. Can’t wait to hear what happens to Stevie and Steve.

One of the better Podcasts I’ve listened to in recent memory. I appreciate the hosts perspective and believe she is in a unique position to report on the subject matter. Lots of folks glamorize drug running so it’s truthfully refreshing to hear this type of story from someone who just wants to...Read full review »

Totally hooked by the trailer, and the first ep def delivers. What a wild story! Can’t wait to keep listening. I also think everyone should read the host’s book “Down City: A Daughter’s Story of Love , Memory, and Murder”

I've been reading Leah's crime reporting for years (including her memoir Down City!!), and I've been WAITING for her to come through with a podcast. This one is gripping, and told with such sensitivity and humor. Can't wait for the next episode!!!!!Read full review »

The subject matter and layout is awesome- I really want to listen to it, however, the podcaster’s millennial voice and pitched crescendo at the end of every sentence is too nerve rattling. I’m going to try it again another time. She needs to slightly lower her voice and sound less like a valley...Read full review »

…sounds like it’s being narrated by a middle schooler.

This one is promising. The characters are so interesting and there’s a variety of angles and perspectives to think about. The music is real good. I can picture this as an inspiration to an action film. I’m hooked!

Genuinely one of the most interesting mystery stories I’ve heard. This will definitely be on my watch list. What a cool combination of true crime, family dynamics, and a story that’s way more than just art history. Can’t wait for the next episode.

Looking forward to uncovering the fascinating mystery of Steve Kough!

First episode is intriguing. It would help to include some visual links so the listener could see the artwork in question. Also, the narrator’s voice is slightly irritating. So far so good.
