Revisionist history
An interesting show, but rather questionable history. The narrator seems more interested in interpreting history and making value judgements than illuminating and explaining. For example, the presenter is only too willing to describe the horrors of industrialism in Britain, and is frequently willing to ascribe motive to various groups (the rich), yet manages to describe the rise of Mao and the subsequent deaths of tens of millions of people with barely any judgement. This seems like “safe space” history. The presenter could learn from Dan Carlin, a podcaster who puts enquire before personal politics. Finally, the use of guests doesn’t really work. The presenter, despite assertions to the contrary, lecturers to his guests, some of whom provide only glib responses.

This Podcast is worth a listen. Many history Podcasts tend to just scratch the surface. This one takes a more comprehensive narrative approach that is worth a listen if you have the time. I can really tell the host takes great care in preparing for the discussions. Keep up the good work!

For anyone with an interest in key historical events and their context this is a great show to subscribe to. In depth review but in a light and engaging conversational style.
