…the intro “music” is horrible!

Great history podcast. Host and guest voices are smooth as butter. Read a review where someone stated the host has a political bias. I’ve found the complete opposite to be true. I think that reviewer may have a political bias that he hasn’t grasped yet.

They cover interesting topics and provide good insights but the host’s political leanings kind of damper it’s potential. I think it would be the best podcast of this topic type if it were unbiased.

Found this as a recommendation from a website while trying to learn more about the Ottoman Empire, and immediately got sucked in. Had to start listening from the beginning and haven’t regretted a single minute spent. Even the topics that I consider myself to be relatively well versed on were...Read full review »

Thanks for the fun and informative podcast. I love the format and subjects. I do like “names and dates” while reading history non-fiction, but these discussions are appealing in another way. Chapeau!

I’m a big fan of Adam’s format as well as the topics his guests choose (although I’m not saying much with the latter since there’s something for everyone to love!). I’ve known very little detail going into episodes for the vast majority of the topics and certainly never know the entire background...Read full review »

I can’t get enough of HI101. A friend recommended this podcast to me for a road trip, and now a couple months after the road trip ended, I’m still listening every day. I love the format of HI101 - you learn so much, but it’s also so approachable and easy to listen to. The episodes are long, but...Read full review »

In the month since I have discovered this podcast I have probably listened to at least twenty episodes. I consider this podcast to be of the same quality as the history podcasts made by NPR and the BBC, it’s very good.

Super informative well researched content, one of the only podcast with guest that improves the podcast and does not take away from it. Every episode has great info. But the episodes on fascism gave the best description about what fascism I have ever found. Listened every episode all are great,...Read full review »

A brilliant history podcast covering a wide range of topics in both an accessible but thorough way.

An interesting show, but rather questionable history. The narrator seems more interested in interpreting history and making value judgements than illuminating and explaining. For example, the presenter is only too willing to describe the horrors of industrialism in Britain, and is frequently...Read full review »

If you are interested in history - go for this podcast. The interaction between the guest and host works - there’s good strong narrative, but also a bit of back and forth questions from the guest that you the listener might ask. Great stuff!

I love the podcast. I’m not a big fan of podcasts where people talk to each other , I prefer storytelling but this one of different from all the chatty podcasts. I really love the way the host looks deep inside the topics. But my cats absolutely hate the theme music.

This Podcast is worth a listen. Many history Podcasts tend to just scratch the surface. This one takes a more comprehensive narrative approach that is worth a listen if you have the time. I can really tell the host takes great care in preparing for the discussions. Keep up the good work!

You obviously know a lot, however the pace of the “conversation” is so slow we barely get to hear it.

I’ve spent an age attempting to find a podcast that mixes historical knowledge with a genuine relaxing tone & entertaining atmosphere. HI101 fits the bill. Nothing feels forced, it’s a conversation just as it’s branded as. I’ve got a massive back catalog to get through, and I look forward to it!

This surpasses Dan Carlin for me as far as entertaining history podcasts. The fact that the episodes are broad but also narrow in focus is great because you get the same sense you get after reading a book on an obscure subject. The podcast also does the format of “one guy explains history to a...Read full review »

Found this while looking for something to fill the gap while waiting for other history podcasts. So glad I did, one of the best out there. The topics are fascinating. More importantly the delivery is off the cuff and not stale monotone just some guy reading a script. 10/10

I recommend this podcast to anyone who are finding it difficult to start learning a new topic because history is confusing but this helps introduce you into many topics simply so that you can learn the real facts it also helps you decide what new topic you want to dive into it or not

HI101 gives you a solid first overview over a topic without loosing the thread of events in simple listings if names, dates and places. Great way to transfer historical knowledge and really great guys.

Depth of research (despite very occasionally missing a telling detail), pleasant and engaging presentation style (despite upspeak, which can wear on the ears) and almost no BS (remarkable among podcasts) - the parenthesized quibbles mean very little compared to the sincere, decent, intelligent,...Read full review »

First of all, the content is great. I love how accurate it is. Second of all, if you are going to have a co-host who just sits there and says, “uh huh....yeah...mmm-hm” then just invite me on. Similar to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History, HI101 is a strongly researched history podcast that tells the 'story' of historical events/people. Simple, thoughtful explanations of complex ideas. Excellent work. A little work on production quality would be welcome, mainly having guests speak into their microphone, some are too quiet. A minor complaint, an otherwise enjoyable and informative podcast.

I want to enjoy this show. I want to sit back and let the host tell an interesting story about history, which he is more than capable of. That co-host, though.
