This is a really interesting podcast. Hosted by a historian, it is a great resource for anyone wanting to engage in history on a deeper level. As a high school history teacher, I have learned a great deal not just about particular topics but about how to think and ask questions like a historian....Read full review »

These conversations about academic history are examples of what constructive criticism is.

I wish I had discovered this podcast sooner, because now with almost 200 episodes in the can, I’ll never catch up. Listening to a half a dozen recent episodes was very enjoyable and entertaining. The two main topics seem to be History (any time, any place) and College admissions/teaching. The...Read full review »

Podcast title says all. Delves into trends in historical thought— the history of capitalism, environmental history, etc. Host Zambone wears his deep learning lightly, draws out insight after insight from guests. Bonus: Zambone has a great podcast voice.

The Podiverse is awash with amateur historians, some very good, some less good but still fun and entertaining. This is one of the few podcasts for folks who read footnotes and bibliographies first . . . Still fun and entertaining, but “more Grafton, less Diamond” Al Zambone is an academic...Read full review »

One of my professors introduced his class by saying that history occurs in three dimensions: time, place, and the mind of the historian. Historically Thinking is the kind of podcast that honors this understanding of history. Our past is not reducible to narrow, abstract analysis. It is made of...Read full review »

This podcast makes history more fun than you might think possible. Or maybe it’s just Al’s voice! Definitely worth a listen.

This podcast manages to be both fun and deep. Dr. Zambone interviews some of the most interesting historians, librarians, and writers out there while encouraging listeners to make connections to today and think historically. The topics are engaging, offbeat, and relevant. A history of shoes? Ice?...Read full review »

The podcast is the work of a historian who obviously delights in history, the story of peoples. It is a delight for any person seeking to know our many stories.

I love listening this podcast during my commute. Dr. Zambone's love for history and what we can learn from it rings out in a clear and concise manner making it enjoyable for me as a non-history guy.Read full review »

Mr. Zambone ranges widely, yet seems at home wherever and whenever he stops. One learns from him; his podcast helps fulfill the promise of this medium.

Al does such a great job of making the conversation interesting and unpredictable - it always feels like we get the end and we just started talking.

That’s the key word. Whether or not you are a historian or interested in the episode’s topic, the guarantee is that you will walk away thinking, which is the author’s goal. I love the variety of topics, periods, and questions that are covered.

I like the topics very much but with each episode I listened to, the sound quality was disappointing. One time the interviewee was speaking on skype or facetime and the highs and lows were cut off. Another time the interviewee was speaking on a bad phoneline. Now I am listening to an episode...Read full review »

Interesting look at humanities professor struggling to understand his life in an industry that doesn't seem to value his subject so much. The actual history episodes are kind of hit or miss, some of them are just too packed with the author's information about the subject. But it's...Read full review »

History is more than just a textbook about various countries and how they came to be - every person, place, and thing has its own history. Historically Thinking allows listeners the chance to learn about various topics from an historical lens, in an intelligent, engaging podcast. Great work!
