Good for what it is
Bolelli is very good at the one thing this podcast purports to do: epic and often brutal narratives of war and combat from history. It’s pretty sensationalized (if you want more rigorous historical analysis, listen to In Our Time), but at least that keeps it entertaining and blood-pumping. I wouldn’t exactly call Bolelli a master historian, and I kind of wish he’d added a gender studies degree to his suite of master’s degrees given his tendency toward hypermasculine fragility, but he’s a very entertaining storyteller. Also, major TW for sexual assault in many of the episodes.

Found out about this from when Mr. Bolelli was on Joe Rogan's podcast. Definitely worth a listen. Great way to start with insight into the Servile Wars of Rome.Read full review »

Daniele Bolelli is a favorite of mine and I always enjoy hearing him on other podcasts. When he spoke to Duncan Trussell about this upcoming series I was SIKED! If you like HardCore history, you will love Daniele Bolelli's History on Fire!Read full review »
