“I started listening to Homosapiens at a really strange time in my life. I was (unknown to me at the time) terribly unhappy, overweight and unhealthy, struggling with my marriage and being gaslit into thinking I was mentally unstable…. It was a very dark time… and in that time I discovered podcasts, namely, Homosapiens! (At the time, Chris and Will were the hosts.) Since then… I’ve journeyed through years of big life changes… my husband cheated on me in our own home and left me for that man, signalling the end of my marriage and the beginning of my journey to contentment and happiness. All the while, I’m listening to Homosapiens and exploring the nuanced and diverse world of LGBTQIA peoples lives that I didn’t really have any insight, experience or understanding of before, stuck in my little bubble of fear. Continuing to listen to the podcast has helped me to lose weight and become healthier and fitter as I took up running and you guessed it, Homosapiens in my ears kept my little feet moving! Hearing that all the ideals of the gay scene I had in my head isn’t actually the only scene there is and that other people exist just like me who also feared the different tribes of the gay male world, purely for lack of understanding or thinking that I didn’t fit into any box… only to realise that I didn’t need to fit into anyones box (excuse the pun). Homosapiens has helped me shake off my deep-rooted internalised homophobia and hear about all the wonderful different types of people there are, not to mention ones just like me. I honestly can’t thank Homosapiens enough for being a light in the dark during one of the most difficult times of my life, I am transformed, and I attribute a lot of my new found way of thinking and knowledge to this fab podcast. Not to mention, they also have some outstanding and insightful guests and cover really important topics that have taught me a lot of that I was able to see myself in. It’s also often just a really good laugh too and makes me smile! Please never stop! 🥰”
