“I just listened to the first episode, and I was happy to discover it enlightened me to a blind spot in my personal knowledge of surrogacy, which is what the process is like for the surrogate!
Having grown up around the surrogacy "matchmaking" process, I am familiar with the clinical/medical/legal logistics surrounding surrogacy, and have met a lot of intended parents and learned a bit about their journeys, but rarely do I hear the point of view of the surrogates. I do not think I am alone in this - I have found that a lot of people misunderstand surrogacy and the surrogates' motivations and involvement, simply due to lack of available information about what this process can look like.
This podcast not only provides an informative and accurate glimpse of the surrogacy process, but also offers a beautiful, intimate view of Amandas's surrogacy journey and how it has influenced her personal journey. Her generosity, and thoughtful, grounded worldview shine through as she describes the anxieties, challenges, and love in her story. This, combined with her being interviewed by Brett (whose personal experience with surrogacy allows him to conduct a knowledgable, caring, and mindful interview), creates a warm and earnest narrative that is definitely a tear jerker.
Whether it is new information about the logistics of surrogacy or an appreciation for how profoundly personal this journey is for all involved parties, I believe everyone can learn something from this podcast. For me, it is a wonderful reflection of the strength in remaining open and vulnerable, and the joy that can come from that.
