Great ideas. A miss for me on execution.
The topics Brad has chosen are well-considered. Underneath all the schmaltz, he does have some good information. The "production" values he has added to the podcast content did not make the podcast easier for me to listen to. They made it harder. Listening to this podcast, you feel like you're listening to a TV show, and missing half the content that was displayed visually. The background sound didn't do anything for me. (Made it sound a little bit like an infomercial or a political ad. Like I was getting "spin" instead of substance.) I appreciate his attempt at a history podcast. The ideas are excellent. The effort is clearly there. He has a voice for podcasting, though the dramatic reading and background mood music distracts from what he's trying to say. The writing is good, but a bit full of fluffy, non-informative phrasing. The long introductions are a 3-minute ad. You have to do some skipping to get to the real start. If he wants to keep the production as is, I think it is half of a good TV show, and he should add video and sell it to school systems. As a podcast, it just didn't work for me. I found myself mumbling, "Get over yourself." It's a great idea and 12 minutes of info in 42 minutes, if you know what I mean. Double-speed listening helped, but not enough. Keep and rework the ideas. Keep it content heavy and edit like crazy. Keep it simple on the production values. It could be excellent, but I didn't think it was there yet.Read full review »

I am very happy that I found this show (through Danielle Bolleli's History on Fire). I love the topics Brad covers, and the way he puts it together. My only criticsm would be that some of the episodes cover such broad topics that there can't be enough time to point out the really juicy...Read full review »

Listened to the first two episodes and really enjoyed it! Love how the information was presented and the ability to go and refer to the primary sources used via his website. It was like listening to a story and in no way represents those boring history lectures I remember recieving in school. I...Read full review »
