“The interview with Russell Manser broke my heart. Why can’t prisoner officers be sued for past sexual assaults? Like the Catholic Church? Why can’t the government be sued for not providing a safe environment for prisoners? This needs to end, it can’t be accepted that young people who make a mistake are going to be raped in prison. It can’t be the norm and it’s evident how that sexual violence committed against Robert changed the trajectory of his life. And thousands and thousands of others no doubt. If there is a light shone on the sexual violence and individuals in charge are made accountable then prisoners officer’s and the government would not turn a blind eye to this. It’s soul destroying for the victims and this should not be part of their punishment. Rape is illegal, why is it ok in prison?”
