Highly Recommended, Relevant, Relatable, Real
Imani State of Mind podcasts are incredibly professional, scholarly, intellectual, entertaining, and engaging with an effectively down to earth communicative style. I am a 71 year old Black clinical psychologist, a high school math consultant, and the mother of a 28 year old female. I find the content and the discussions to be relevant, interesting, and helpful to me professionally and personally. I often recommend this podcast to teens, young adults, parents, and colleagues. In one of the many, many episodes that I recently related to, it was a listener's question about her mom that exactly described a therapy session that I had just completed. Dr. Imani's response directly reflected the advice I gave my client regarding the need to have her mom evaluated and possibly declared mentally incompetent and unable to care for herself. On a personal note, the episode on the REALlities of Parenting personally taught me a lot about what I am doing wrong. After listening, I vowed to better respect my daughter's independence and stop expressing opinions/butting in. In less than a day, I f'ed up, again. I'm still trying! Thank you, Dr. Imani. You have my utmost admiration and appreciation. Patricia Jordan, PhD Licensed Clinical Psychologist Posted 2/19/2023 Professional, Personable, Pleasant In her first episode, Dr. Walker combined her professional expertise; and her personable, pleasant manner to invite her audience into an Imani State is Mind regarding our current health and social climates. She educated us about the horrific facts and stats, informed us of expected anxiety and depression, and advised us accordingly. Moreover, she openly shared some of her own related challenges. Given the sadness of the topic, listening to her podcast was actually pleasant and encouraging. Her voice and the intro music were both quite soothing; her sense of humor was appropriate and welcome. I have shared Imani State of Mind with friends and colleagues. I look forward to continued Professional, Personable, and Pleasant episodes. We need an Imani State of Mind now more than ever. Almost all interactions I’ve had with mental health professionals have been more formal and stilted, and honestly I was expecting that from listening to Imani State of Mind as well before actually giving an episode a listen. By contrast, this podcast feels much more like an ordinary dialogue...Read full review »
