“The performers of the Improvised Star Trek all clearly have a deep working knowledge of the series and are able to bring up little references to the show effectively, and without too much force. It is not a series of jokes about Star Trek, but a comedy that takes place in its universe. For this, it is effective at keeping the interest of non-Trekkies and at giving believable (albeit incredibly silly) characters and backstories. They aren't afraid to make their own contributions to the setting!
The show takes a little time to get into. In early episodes, it is difficult to differentiate some of the characters. Many of the jokes fall back on the same couple of themes as well. However, the crew is developed, and details about the Starship Sisyphus are kept in use throughout the show. Like a true Star Trek series, knowing the characters and relating to them, even if (or because!) the crew is incompetent, adds so much to our enjoyment. Eventually the ensemble cast becomes familiar.
In the tradition of the television show, subplots often tie into the main story in an interesting way. The silly scenarios tend to wrap up completely and satisfyingly, as opposed to a common improv ending of, "We're screwed, non sequitur joke, The End!"
This podcast draws more from Star Trek than just the setting and technology. It's definitely worth your time if you're a fan of the TV series, or if you like silly and a sometimes crude humor and can tolerate the science fiction setting.”Read full review »

“This is not Captain Baxter. I love this podcast. I'm not Captain Baxter. Let' make that totally clear. You should download it now, because I'm definitely somebody else who isn't the captain of this fictional star trek cast.”Read full review »
