“This podcast had the potential to be a good piece of listening, but was spoilt by the chap who does most of the talking - I can’t stand a gabbler. I had to set the speed down to .8 so my blood pressure didn’t rise as I yelled ‘stop gabbling!’. Once that was settled, it got better, but I kept wishing the guy had a more serious approach to the material - the ghost business left me totally cold, the stories are interesting enough, they do not need nonsensical embellishment of ‘ghosts’. I do get that he runs tours featuring ‘ghosts’, but I do think he might just mention it in passing - ‘so & so’s ghost is reputed to haunt here’ would be fine, just stop the surmising about why the ‘ghost’ should have decided to choose that particular place to haunt! LOL!
Then I was annoyed that he appeared to have no understanding of how people thought in the era - he didn’t understand what was meant by the woman having ‘unsexed’ herself by committing the crime of murder. He needs to read some Victorian novels, Anthony Trollope for eg, to understand how women were thought of as pure and unblemished, while men could be rough and wild, and excuses could be made for their bad behaviour, but there was no excuse for a woman. I will listen to some more, because the topics are so interesting. But please. Do Not Gabble!! I don’t think I would enjoy the tour much, if that’s how he does his commentary.”
