Come for the diversity, leave for the intolerance.
I am liberal Democrat and am emphatically anti-Trump. I found In The Thick because I wanted to expand my perspective and finding a point of view from a POC viewpoint was both welcome and refreshing. When I think of America, I think of the melting pot, inclusive, working toward fixing injustice, and always perplexed the chasm between sex, creed, and class is so wide and deep. I understand unfair discrimination, hostility and prejudice reinforces the divide between white and black, and there's not always a desire to hug the nearest white person. Having said, I find it disheartening to hear In the Thick say things like "I don't know about white people anymore because I don't know if they voted for Trump". I've heard more than a couple shows where the hosts and their guests nod in agreement how tiring it is to listen to white people problems, and try to explain endlessly to them about POC problems. As a white person, maybe I don't always get it, maybe I do need the lines drawn for me and I'm sure I'm not the only one; but come on, I'm also on the side of equality and fairness. I feel like sometimes I'm being lumped into the same pile of white people that POC don't trust, after a while you feel like maybe you should stop reaching out and offering olive branches and seeking solutions. In Trumpland, I'm sure this isn't where we should be, especially when we should be seeking allies and fighting the common enemy: authoritarianism.Read full review »

One of the best podcasts about the election in 2016. The panel changes a lot, and they never have a dull conversation. You'll hear many voices, with many perspectives. It will provoke thought and you'll find yourself talking about episodes long after they have aired.Read full review »
