Missed Opportunity
Karl Lagerfeld's role as a creative director is legendary - updating Chanel, branding himself, and bringing chique, minimal, structered shapes into the modern era. But f you're going to talk about Vogue in the 90's, I'd hope you'd be able to do it with a 2020 lens, and see the way 90's fashion aliented many, and supported ideas about women and fashion that have harmed so many. Lagerfeld was influential in perpetuating sexist, fatphobic, and problematic traits of the fashion industry, not just in 1990 but up until the end. His quotes include: -  “No one wants to see curvy women.” - (of Pippa Milddleton)  I don't like the sister's face. She should only show her back.” - Of Heidi Klum, he said, was "simply too heavy"  - He also once stated that Coco Chanel wasn’t a feminist because she “wasn’t ugly enough for that.” I see and am in awe of his artistic vision, but lets not pretend you can only have influence if you also receive a pass on being an ethical human being. As Vogue wrestles with it's own shortcomings and history, I want to see it grow up and move into the modern world of accountability. So far I'm seeing very little of that, as this podcast proves. Tell his story - tell every story - it it's entirety, and not just the parts that support your narritive.Read full review »

Victoria Beckham is the featured designer.(?) “Victoria Beckham makes Zara clothes in expensive fabrics”. Where’s Gaultier,...Read full review »

Kate Young had super interesting things to share and the snarky—and what seemed quite insecure —stucatto interview style of the Malle person really detracted from the podcast.
