Hattie has a great interview style. She lets the author be the star, her questions are gently probing and interesting, she seems like a friendly person you want to chat with, she asks the questions I’d like to ask. I’m learning so such about writing. Please keep going Hattie!

I listen to many writing podcasts and this is the best of the best. Hattie is a great interviewer and manages to illicit interesting writing craft advice from all her guests. And I love the ice-breaker question she asks of everyone “Describe where you write.”

As a reader and fiction writer—and writing podcast devotee—I find this one of the best of its sort. Even writers whom I’ve heard in other interviews seem to enter into new territory while chatting with Hattie. Only “complaint” is a bias against long books. Love to hear a writer resist the idea here.

Consistently very good. Hattie gets interviews with a wide range of interesting writers and gives them the time and space to talk about how they work. They open up in a way that is fascinating to anyone who writes for a living and she gently encourages them, without taking over.

A podcast that never disappoints, In Writing features all sorts of writers who, in revealing their methods, inspirations, anxieties etc have provided me with so much inspiration and hope. So much so, I’ve listened to many episodes twice.

Love this podcast, although I’m late to the game (discovered it Autumn 2020). So delighted to find this, and in particular the episode with Kit de Waal. If you are interested in the writer’s craft, and listening to writers who are generous in their deconstruction of their craft, without in any way being overblown. Thank you Hattie for creating this wonderful resource!
