Fresh take on incel communities
This podcast is extremely interesting and informative. It’s understandably easy to dismiss all incels as being misogynist/Elliot Rodger types waiting to take revenge for their shortcomings on the rest of society. There’s no denying that a huge amount of misogyny exists in these online forums and that some incels have gone on to commit terroristic acts but “Incel” takes the time and effort to understand on a deeper level. And this is important. There’s absolutely no excusing hate towards women or men (there are also women in these incel communities as well) but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t make efforts to listen to the very people so many fear. It’s important to note that this is not the equivalent of permitting hateful and harmful behavior when it arises. Allowing people to become so isolated without taking the time to understand how this happens may lead in dangerous directions and result negative repercussions on society as a whole. “Incel” is simply a part of a larger effort to understand why people do what they do and why they become who they become. Do give this one a listen :)

I agree with the idea that genuinely listening to these people and showing compassion to those who have been (or at least, have felt they have been) denied it for so long is a step in the right direction. However, I don’t see this podcast doing that. The entire second episode of this podcast was...Read full review »
