Host isn’t good
I tried to listed to different episodes over the last 2 years and I find that it’s mostly filler. The host has an annoying way of talking and sharing. He laughs at his own non-jokes and they feel forced as if he forces himself to say something just to get a word in. I can’t finish any episode due to the host. He has no knowledgeable input but tries to appear as some guru entertainment entrepreneur. This podcast is mostly for entertainment since it would become overwhelming to think you really need to listed to thousands of hours of rambling to learn about the craft. If you want to learn how to get through the mess of making a movie, work any position on a $2 million movie set. You’ll see the problem solving first hand. Then go write and make your own little movie and you’ll learn more than this show can sell you on. Host isn’t in the film business. He’s in the podcast guru business. I really can’t stand listening to this guy. If only he could keep quiet and let the guest talk so maybe I can get some story nuggets for pure entertainment out of it. I dread listening to the episodes purely due to the host. He sounds like that guy who doesn’t get any women but tries to sell himself rapidly while talking to a new women and it comes off as desperate. And the nervous fake laughing and his own non-jokes. Really cringe at those. This podcast makes the film biz sound boring and defeating. Here’s your answer how to make money off movies. Have an amazing script (very hard part) and offer half the budget to a known actor just to have a marketable name in the movie. Use this stuff to presale the movie and since it’s got potential distribution and potential name attached, use this to get investor money to pay for the movie. There, you are now a film entrepreneur. But you need the fantastic script first which is the hard part.

I’ve been listening to Alex for the last 3 months. I make documentaries; mainly short content & for broadcasters (which is a fantastic opportunity in its own right), but I can honestly say that only now do I feel I could have the confidence and strategy to make my first documentary feature -...Read full review »
